Voltage Fluctuation and Your Fridge: Why a Stabilizer Still Matters

A large share of the burnt starters, failed inverter boards and seized compressors we see in Dhaka have one thing in common: unstable voltage. Many newer refrigerators advertise a wide voltage range, but repeated dips, spikes and sudden restarts after load-shedding still take their toll.

What low voltage does

When voltage drops, the compressor motor draws more current to do the same work. The windings heat up, the overload protector trips repeatedly and, over months, insulation breaks down. The usual end result is a compressor that hums but won’t start.

What spikes and restarts do

Sudden surges when power returns can damage the control PCB in inverter models and the relay in conventional ones. Restarting a compressor seconds after it stopped — while refrigerant pressure is still high — also strains the motor.

Simple ways to protect your refrigerator

  • Use a good-quality stabilizer or voltage protector with a start-up time delay.
  • Plug the fridge directly into a properly earthed wall socket, not a shared multi-plug.
  • After a power cut, wait three to five minutes before switching the fridge back on if you have no delay protector.
  • Keep condenser coils clean so the compressor doesn’t have to work harder than necessary.

Already seeing symptoms?

If your fridge clicks without starting, trips the breaker or shows an error code after a storm, switch it off and call us on 01795-634921. Our technicians test the compressor, relay and PCB on site and explain the options before any work begins. See our full list of services.
